RecallLoom JLPT N4 Vocabulary — American English Edition

By RecallLoom

Tags: Japanese, JLPT, N4, vocabulary, English, audio

Ready to move beyond the basics? Put your next Japanese words into daily practice.

RecallLoom brings 1,109 vocabulary entries into one ready-to-import Anki deck, with clear American English explanations, Japanese examples, and word audio. Spend your study time reviewing Japanese instead of building flashcards from scratch.

Use it alongside your N4 textbook, class, or self-study routine. Each entry gives you three ways to practice: recognize a kana reading, read the Japanese word and recall its meaning, or start with the English meaning and try to bring the Japanese word to mind.

Connect meaning, sound, and use

  • Understand the word in context. Explore 1,333 Japanese–English example pairs, with related words and usage notes where included.
  • Practice both recognition and recall. Switch between three familiar flip-card activities rather than relying on a single cue.
  • Connect writing with pronunciation. Word recordings accompany 1,071 entries.
  • Get started without extra setup. The English user guide is built into a separate Start Here subdeck and explains the activities and grammar labels.

What’s included

  • 1,109 vocabulary entries with Japanese readings and English meanings.
  • 3,327 practice cards: three activities for each entry.
  • 3 English guide cards, for a total of 3,330 cards.
  • One .apkg download containing the cards, audio, and guide.

Import the file into Anki, open Start Here — User Guide, and choose a manageable daily review pace. This deck is best suited to learners who can already read hiragana and katakana.

Before you start

This is a digital vocabulary deck; Anki software is installed or purchased separately. The cards use Anki’s reveal-and-rate format, not automatic spelling tests. Audio pronounces words, not example sentences. There are 38 text-only entries, mostly prefixes and suffixes; entries with multiple readings may include a recording of only one reading. You can turn off automatic playback in deck options when you prefer to recall before hearing a hint.

Use the deck alongside grammar, reading, and listening practice. It is an independent N4 study resource, not an official JLPT list or a guarantee of exam coverage. Pitch-number annotations are retained as reference notes; this is not a verified pitch-accent course.

RecallLoom JLPT N1 Vocabulary — American English Edition

By RecallLoom

Tags: Japanese, JLPT, N1, vocabulary, English, audio

Make more sense of the Japanese you read and hear.

When a word looks familiar but its meaning still slips away, context helps. RecallLoom puts Japanese vocabulary, clear American English meanings, and bilingual examples into a ready-to-import Anki deck, so you can spend more time reviewing and less time making cards.

Built for learners moving through N1-level study, this deck fits alongside your textbook, class, reading, or listening practice. Work from a kana reading, a Japanese word, or an English cue, then reveal the answer and rate your recall.

Go beyond a one-word translation

  • See how words are used. Japanese–English examples give you context; related expressions and usage notes add detail where included.
  • Practice from different cues. Three card formats help you work on meaning, reading, and recalling the Japanese word.
  • Keep your routine simple. One import brings in your vocabulary cards, included word recordings, and a separate English Start Here guide.

Inside your download

  • 3,179 vocabulary entries, with Japanese readings and American English meanings.
  • 3,521 Japanese–English example pairs, plus related vocabulary and usage notes where included.
  • 9,537 practice cards and 3 English guide cards—three practice cards for each entry.
  • Word recordings attached to 3,112 entries; 67 entries use text-only practice.

Start studying

Download the .apkg file, import it into Anki, and open Start Here — User Guide. Begin with a manageable number of new cards and use Anki’s review schedule to return to words over time.

Before you buy

You should already be comfortable with kana and have a solid upper-intermediate Japanese foundation. Anki software is installed or purchased separately. These are reveal-and-rate flashcards, not automatically graded spelling tests; more than one Japanese word can fit an English cue.

Recordings are for vocabulary words, not example-sentence narration. Some entries have no recording, and a multi-reading entry may include audio for only one reading. Audio can play automatically; you can turn off automatic playback in Anki’s deck options. Pitch numbers are retained as reference notes, not as an independently verified pitch-accent course.

This is an independent study resource, not an official JLPT word list or a guarantee of exam coverage. Use it alongside grammar, reading, and listening practice.

RecallLoom JLPT N5 Vocabulary — American English Edition

By RecallLoom

Tags: Japanese, JLPT N5, vocabulary, audio, beginner

Whether you’re working toward JLPT N5 or building your beginner vocabulary alongside a class or textbook, you can open the deck and focus on your next review.

Xefjord's Complete Vietnamese (Southern)

By Xefjord

Tags: xefjord, vietnamese

Xefjord’s Complete Language Series was created with the mission of providing free language learning courses for every known living language. Xefjord was driven to start this project because he believes that every culture is inherently valuable and important to our humanity and global well being, and that languages are the gateway towards preserving and promoting those cultures.

Because of its popularity, ease of use, and open source nature Xefjord decided to create all his courses on the digital flashcard program Anki. These courses were created with the purpose of giving learners a survival level introduction to their language of choice while also granting them the tools to continue learning with and expanding upon the functionality of Anki afterwards.

There are three options for learning Vietnamese. ONLY PICK ONE.

Vietnamese (Northern) has full audio in the northern dialect of Vietnamese (As spoken in Hanoi). Northern dialect is often considered the de-facto Standard Vietnamese, so learn this if you can’t decide what to learn, it is used in Media, Writing, and the News.

Vietnamese (Southern) has full audio in the southern dialect of Vietnamese (As spoken around Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City). Southern dialect will be most common within the Vietnamese diaspora, so learn this if you plan on working with overseas Vietnamese or moving to southern Vietnam.

Vietnamese (Traditional) has Northern dialect audio but uses its traditional Nom script (as the language was written before 1910). This deck has little modern practicality, but feel free to learn with it if you are a scholar of Vietnamese language/history or coming from a background of CH/JP.

Remember ONLY PICK ONE when downloading to your Anki. Completely remove your existing Vietnamese deck before downloading another.
