RecallLoom JLPT N4 Vocabulary — American English Edition

By RecallLoom

Tags: Japanese, JLPT, N4, vocabulary, English, audio

Ready to move beyond the basics? Put your next Japanese words into daily practice.

RecallLoom brings 1,109 vocabulary entries into one ready-to-import Anki deck, with clear American English explanations, Japanese examples, and word audio. Spend your study time reviewing Japanese instead of building flashcards from scratch.

Use it alongside your N4 textbook, class, or self-study routine. Each entry gives you three ways to practice: recognize a kana reading, read the Japanese word and recall its meaning, or start with the English meaning and try to bring the Japanese word to mind.

Connect meaning, sound, and use

  • Understand the word in context. Explore 1,333 Japanese–English example pairs, with related words and usage notes where included.
  • Practice both recognition and recall. Switch between three familiar flip-card activities rather than relying on a single cue.
  • Connect writing with pronunciation. Word recordings accompany 1,071 entries.
  • Get started without extra setup. The English user guide is built into a separate Start Here subdeck and explains the activities and grammar labels.

What’s included

  • 1,109 vocabulary entries with Japanese readings and English meanings.
  • 3,327 practice cards: three activities for each entry.
  • 3 English guide cards, for a total of 3,330 cards.
  • One .apkg download containing the cards, audio, and guide.

Import the file into Anki, open Start Here — User Guide, and choose a manageable daily review pace. This deck is best suited to learners who can already read hiragana and katakana.

Before you start

This is a digital vocabulary deck; Anki software is installed or purchased separately. The cards use Anki’s reveal-and-rate format, not automatic spelling tests. Audio pronounces words, not example sentences. There are 38 text-only entries, mostly prefixes and suffixes; entries with multiple readings may include a recording of only one reading. You can turn off automatic playback in deck options when you prefer to recall before hearing a hint.

Use the deck alongside grammar, reading, and listening practice. It is an independent N4 study resource, not an official JLPT list or a guarantee of exam coverage. Pitch-number annotations are retained as reference notes; this is not a verified pitch-accent course.

RecallLoom JLPT N3 Vocabulary — American English Edition

By RecallLoom

Tags: Japanese, JLPT, N3, vocabulary, English, audio

Move beyond familiar words and make more Japanese your own.

RecallLoom gives you a ready-to-import vocabulary deck for the step from the basics toward intermediate Japanese. Clear American English explanations help you follow the meaning, while Japanese examples show how words work in context—so you can spend your time studying instead of building cards.

Use it alongside your N3 textbook, class, or reading practice. Review from the Japanese spelling, the kana reading, or an English cue, and use the included word recordings to connect written forms with pronunciation.

More context for your daily review

  • Make sense of meaning and usage. Study Japanese–English example pairs and related expressions where included.
  • Practice recognition and recall. Three familiar flip-card activities give you different ways to work with each entry.
  • Keep setup simple. Import one .apkg file containing the cards, recordings, and a separate English Start Here guide.

Inside your download

  • 2,192 vocabulary entries, with Japanese readings and clear English meanings.
  • 2,375 Japanese–English example pairs, plus related vocabulary and usage notes where included.
  • 6,576 practice cards and 3 English guide cards—three activities for each vocabulary entry.
  • Word recordings attached to 2,118 entries; 74 entries have no source recording.

Before you begin

Designed for learners who can already read hiragana and katakana and have a foundation in basic Japanese. Anki software is installed or purchased separately. Cards use Anki’s reveal-and-rate format, not automatic spelling tests; more than one Japanese word can fit an English cue. Word recordings are not sentence narration, and some entries have no recording. You can turn off automatic playback when you want to recall before hearing a hint.

This is an independent vocabulary resource to use alongside grammar, reading, and listening practice. It is not an official JLPT list or a guarantee of exam coverage. Pitch numbers are included as source reference notes, not as a verified pitch-accent course.

Audio note: 描く (えがく / かく) and 解く (とく / ほどく) each share one recording across their two reading entries; separate recordings for both readings are not included.
